I have always wanted to own some land and take care of many critters. I love Wisconsin and especially love the beauty of the Driftless region.
So when I had the chance to buy a property in the Driftless, I was excited and a bit scared. After a year of owning the place and spending what spare time I had to learning about restorative practices and tending to sheep, I realized I needed to really devote myself if I wanted to make my dreams of restoring the land and implementing a managed grazing program on the pasture. Everything I attempt takes three times longer than I think it will. So I am excited and a bit scared to be launching Flocksadaisy Farm LLC.
Through Flocksadaisy Farm, I am imaging how to to best use animals to restore the environment. On this 20-acre property, I want to improve the soil, waterways, grass pasture, and forest.
Currently, I have one flock of chickens, which I plan to expand a bit.
Next up will be adding a flock of sheep.
I want to provide animals with the space and food and water they need to THRIVE as individuals of their species.
I plan to sell eggs and meat direct to consumers. I may also sell cut flowers and vegetables I grow on the property.
I also want to share this special place with others. I would like to connect people to memorable experiences. Through retreats, people can appreciate the land, animals, and Wisconsin seasons which may help spark creativity and insights.
I have a lot of learning to do and a lot of work to do! But I am energized and ready to go! I have already met some wonderful people who have helped me set up my business and freely shared their wisdom and experiences. I am looking forward to embracing the local community and meeting more folks.
I have lots of ideas and lots of plans, and I want to share my journey through this blog. I hope you will join me!
